“I used WorldPay as a consumer and the payment went through seamlessly, on the more constructive side the UI does look a little outdated and I would suggest they get their techies to polish it up.” -Alan O.

WorldPay (formerly known as Vantiv) is one of the largest credit card processing companies in the United States. WorldPay and Vantiv merged in 2018 and boast two headquarters: one in Ohio and one in the UK, with other locations across the US. WorldPay uses a tiered fee pricing structure, which can tend to be more expensive for smaller businesses. Unfortunately, WorldPay (formerly Vantiv) is not as forthcoming in sharing their rates online, but what they do provide is the lowest rates you can possible obtain as follows: Credit Card purchases (in person): 2.25% + $0.10 Online Purchasing: 2.7% + $0.30 WorldPay/Vantiv also lumps purchases into the three categories of qualified, mid-qualified, and non-qualified. Since there are no specifics on what kinds of purchases and cards fall into which of these categories, it’s best to ask a representative for specifics. They require the typical additional fees found with any credit card processing company, including an annual fee, monthly statement fee, PCI compliance fee and chargeback fee. A downside for WorldPay, however, is that not do they require a three-year contract, but charge early termination fees between $295-$495. Additionally, there are reports that their contracts also require payment of liquidated damages, meaning that you need to pay the cost of the lost contract. These fees can be extremely expensive (upwards of thousands of dollars), so it is important to understand every piece of the contract and to negotiate if possible.

WorldPay (formerly Vantiv) offers a variety of POS systems and credit card terminals that can work for businesses of any size. The terminals they provide are from either Verifone or Ingenico, both reputable terminal brands, and can be easily integrated with the POS system offered by WorldPay. Terminals can accept any credit card with swipe and chip, along with mobile app payments, and even check processing.

They also offer SimpleSwipe, which is a typical mobile payment that is compatible with smart phones. SimpleSwipe is attached and can accept swiped card payments from anywhere with a connection. SimpleSwipe uses can add multiple salespeople to the account and can boast multiple mini terminals, making it easy to accept purchases on the go. WorldPay offers online terminal integration in addition to in-person transaction capabilities. They ensure that their online transactions are PCI compliant and include other helpful tools that can enhance both the ease of transaction and customer experience.

WorldPay/Vantiv’s POS systems include fraud protection, online integration, and additional tools, data, and apps to supplement any business’ needs. WorldPay uses a tiered fee pricing structure, which can tend to be more expensive for smaller businesses. Unfortunately, WorldPay (formerly Vantiv) is not as forthcoming in sharing their rates online, and what they do provide is their lowest starting rates. WorldPay/Vantiv also lumps purchases into the three categories of qualified, mid-qualified, and non-qualified. Since there are no specifics on what kinds of purchases and cards fall into which of these categories, it’s best to ask a representative for specifics. They require the typical additional fees found with any credit card processing company, including an annual fee, monthly statement fee, PCI compliance fee and chargeback fee.

A downside for WorldPay, however, is that not do they require a three-year contract, but charge early termination fees between $95-$295. Additionally, there are reports that their contracts also require payment of liquidated damages, meaning that you need to pay the cost of the lost contract. These fees can be extremely expensive (upwards of thousands of dollars), so it is important to understand every piece of the contract and to negotiate if possible. As discussed before with credit card processing, it’s best to try to negotiate, as some companies will be reasonable in reducing or eliminating some of the additional fees charged.

“Started out on pay-as-you-go which worked really well, as sales grew moved onto monthly fee. Various levels great for start ups where card payments are small. Occasional hiccup with app or card reader freezing but overall works well. Payments usually prompt in the bank and staff helpful.” -D. Ashworth

Flagship Merchants Reputation

We at iDeal Comparison do not judge reputation on brand name and recognition. Rather, we base it on our own experiences, reputable customer reviews, and other professional reviewers, along data security measures offered.

Customer Service

WorldPay offers 24/7 customer service in the form of phone calls along with live chat and email contact options as well. One of the problems with large companies such as WorldPay is that although they have a multitude of resources at their disposal, there can be a disconnect when it comes to customer service. There are complaints that have been recorded regarding the customer service offered by WorldPay (formerly Vantiv), including long wait times on the phone and poor information provided by representatives.

Data Security

WorldPay is PCI compliant, but they go further with their offering of OmniShield. This additional layer of protection keeps fraudulent purchases at bay, keeping customer data from being stolen or compromised. We at iDeal Comparison appreciate this tool because it can be customized for each business as necessary.

Professional and Merchant Reviews

WorldPay has an A+ BBB rating, but the reviews they’ve received from both merchant and professional reviews are slightly concerning. Reports of difficulty canceling services, hidden fees, lack of transparency, unexpected auto-renewal are unfavorable at best. Additionally, it seems some company alignment issues arose from the merger between Vantiv and WorldPay, which, although expected, have made it more difficult for merchants along the way. These reasons, coupled with the termination fees, make it hard for us at iDeal Comparison to recommend them as a payment processor.
