In our visit to Medical Guardian’s offices, we observed first-hand how Medical Guardian has become one of the leading providers of medical alert systems by focusing on what matters most – their “seniors”. The staff in every department that interacts with the customer receives extensive training, with emphasis on the sensitivity often needed to help the senior through any issues that arise. We watched a training class in action, and as we did it was clear that Medical Guardian emphasises their “senior first” mantra. We listened to several calls where service reps helped a customer set up and install their new equipment, walking the user patiently through the process. We also watched the “save” team deal with customers who were cancelling their service. As with every subscription-based service, the team attempted to keep the customer, however in a polite and respectful way. when it was clear that the customer’s circumstances had changed, the CSR was quick to handle the processing of the return. Overall, The Medical Guardian customer service teams were impressive, earning high marks for their care for customers.
We also visited with the sales team, called “Life Safety Consultants”, and they worked with new potential customers. Again, we were impressed with their training, and ability to assess the senior’s particular situation, and provide a customized recommendation for their particular need. The team is certainly “trained to sell” – however, we did not observe “consultant” try and oversell a user. In candid conversation with team members, they were clear that selling consumers more than they need was not only a negative for the customer, but also for the rep, as it leads to a much higher return rate.
